Near Vision CK

After the age of 40, nearly everyone starts to lose their close reading vision. Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) is a procedure that uses mild heat from radio waves to shrink the glue-like connective tissue (collagen) in the periphery of the cornea. This steepens the cornea, giving farsighted patients with presbyopia better near and distance vision while improving near vision for patients with presbyopia alone. If you are nearsighted, you can have a mild enhancement for better near vision with CK.  Expanded indications such as for astigmatism correction are being studied.  There are currently better alternatives for correcting astigmatism such as implants, laser vision correction, LASIK and limbal relaxing incisions or Astigmatic Keratotomy.  CK is now offered for patients over 40 that have had previous LASIK and would like to improve their near vision.  Schedule an evaluation to determine if you may be a candidate for CK.
