Looking for LASIK?
There may be a better option.

Dr. Malitz has performed thousands of vision correction procedures. For many patients — especially those over 40 — he now recommends Clear Lens Exchange over LASIK. Here’s why.

Why we stopped offering LASIK

LASIK is a well-known procedure, and for the right patient it can produce excellent results. But Dr. Malitz no longer performs LASIK at Southwest Eye Institute — and the reason is simple: for most of the patients we see, there’s a better option.

LASIK reshapes the cornea to correct distance vision. It works well for younger patients with stable prescriptions. But it can’t fix presbyopia (the need for reading glasses after 40), it requires adequate corneal thickness, and it creates a flap that carries a small but real risk of complications.

Clear Lens Exchange solves problems LASIK can’t. It replaces the eye’s natural lens with a premium implant — correcting distance, intermediate, and reading vision in a single procedure. And it prevents cataracts from ever developing.

All distances, not just far

LASIK corrects distance vision. CLEX with a premium IOL corrects distance, intermediate, and near — potentially eliminating glasses entirely.

No more reading glasses

If you’re over 40 and using readers, LASIK won’t help. CLEX directly addresses presbyopia by replacing the stiffening lens.

Prevents future cataracts

Everyone develops cataracts eventually. CLEX replaces the lens now — so you’ll never need cataract surgery later.

No corneal flap

CLEX doesn’t touch the cornea. No flap means no flap-related complications, and patients with thin corneas are still candidates.

Still want LASIK?

If you’re under 40 with a stable prescription and your primary goal is distance correction, LASIK may still be a good fit. Dr. Malitz can refer you to a trusted LASIK provider in Las Vegas and help you understand whether that’s the right path.

But if you’re exploring your options — especially if you’re tired of readers, progressives, or switching between pairs of glasses — a consultation with Dr. Malitz will give you a clear, honest answer about what’s best for your eyes.
