Welcome to my LASIK experience
Morning after surgery
My eyes were slightly swollen, not painful, but keeping them open was tough. The first thing I did was start the eye‑drops.
My drop schedule
The doctor gave me a chart; I made my own because it was extensive.
| Drop type | Purpose | Frequency (first week) |
|---|---|---|
| Antibiotic | Prevent infection | 4 × day |
| Steroid | Reduce inflammation | 4 × day |
| Preservative‑free | Lubrication | 4 × day → 1 × day |
| Gel | Night‑time protection | 2 × day |
Wait 3‑5 minutes between drops so the first isn’t washed away.
Practical tips
- Have someone help with the thick antibiotic & steroid drops the first day.
- Take the day off after surgery (Sunday was perfect for me).
- Wear protective goggles at night and whenever you sleep.
- In the shower, keep your face out of the stream; close eyes instead.
- Use a soft, damp paper towel to gently clean eyelash residue after the first week.
What changed in my vision?
Colors became more vivid and depth perception improved dramatically. The first few weeks I experienced fluctuating clarity and light sensitivity.
Halos are still present around bright lights in dim rooms, but they’re manageable.
Overall verdict
Despite the hassle of drops, I consider LASIK worth it. Risks like dry eye or halos exist, but serious complications are very rare.
